The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is an improved and expanded re-release of the original The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that adds new enemies, equipment, locations, characters, and includes all DLC. In addition, the graphics have been redesigned in the game, new effects have been added and the detail of the environments has been increased.

• First of all, the changed colors and a bunch of new filters are striking. If the standard version of Skyrim mainly showed cold shades, muted and even faded tones with an abundance of gray, brown and white, then in the re-release everything sparkled with bright colors. The new color scheme can hardly be called a disadvantage, but it may seem unusual to those who have not fundamentally installed mods before and played the standard version of the game
• In the reissue, high-resolution shadows were added, plus a beautiful God Rays effect appeared. As for textures and effects, there are no significant changes in this regard in the Special Edition. In the re-release, the authors added improved textures from the free official add-on Skyrim High Resolution Pack, which previously could be installed on the Steam version of the original. Everything looks good, but some textures still lack clarity
• The same situation with the new water shaders. Beautiful waves appeared on the surface of the rivers, and clear reflections appeared in the water, but the shader is still not far from the inky opaque mass from the original Skyrim. The draw distance has also changed slightly.
• Of the really significant changes, it is worth noting a fairly increased amount of vegetation. All sorts of mushrooms and flowers sprouted on the bare paths, and the forests look really dense thanks to the dense foliage. Happy and prettier snow in the mountains. A special shader was “put” on it, so now the snow shimmers beautifully and glistens in the sun
• Bethesda ported Skyrim - Special Edition to a modified version of the Creation Engine, which was already used in Fallout 4. The new engine supports 64 bits, DirectX 11 became the main graphics API. The old version of the Creation Engine (the original Skyrim came out on it) had support for DirectX 9, and the bit depth of the engine was 32 bits.
• The updated engine is faster and more stable. The size of the used RAM is no longer limited to four gigabytes, and this is very good news for those who like to instruct a variety of mods, the total size of which is tens of gigabytes
