What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We chose early access to get your valuable feedback on the game! Mission Control: NanoMech looks at authentic, near-future technologies and imagines what explorers will do with them as we begin to explore other planets. By mixing cutting-edge nanomaterials with space travel, defense, and every day products like cell phones and computers, we can begin to see how technology can open up the new frontier for us. By playing early, you are giving us the chance to enhance this vision and keep making a game that combines science and technology in a fun and creative world. Stat balancing and general gameplay feedback will help us make this game a great experience for everyone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The team is planning on 3-4 Months, but it is dependent on community feedback and the technical difficulty of any enhancements made.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The team has a list of various improvements and additions that it would like to implement. Some of these will be dependent on community feedback and requests. Some of these enhancements are listed below:
  • Steam Trading Cards and Badges anticipated as early additions
  • Graphical and stat balancing changes
  • An avatar selection system so you can see your personal avatar under the dome, including male and female avatars
  • Improvements to the cargo bay area so that you can see your avatar while out of the NanoMech suit
  • The new cargo bay will allow you to access the training areas right there in the cargo bay and work with the scientists you have rescued, possibly testing your suit against increasingly harder waves of enemy robots in a training arena
  • A more refined crafting system to improve your special abilities; you'll need to make tougher choices about what skills you want to take with you
  • Based on level of community interest, more levels, including outdoor missions that explore the surface of Mars are anticipated
  • A mini-game that happens while you are hacking computers, recharging robots, analyzing dangers, and fixing things
  • An achievement system will also provide additional challenges based on the type of equipment you use, how you use your tech points, and how quickly you make it through the missions.
  • Adding voices to the characters could really bring life to the story and enhance the game
  • Language localization (Chinese translation is currently underway)

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“All levels are playable at an early Beta stage, but the game needs stat balancing, art and gameplay polish, and additional QA testing. The game has been through several rounds of QA testing with identified bugs fixed.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be $8.99 initially during Early Access. We will determine final release pricing based on feedback from the community.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our plan is to fully engage useful ideas from the community on how to achieve a better level of challenge and any ideas for polish and fun.”

About This Game

Mission Control: NanoMech is set late in the 21st century and puts players in a high-tech base on the surface of Mars, where they step into the role of a rover pilot delivering supplies. A rogue artificial intelligence named D-brain has taken control of the factory and most of its robotic workers and refuses to let the humans go. With the threat of a massive Mars dust storm cutting off communications to the rest of the Mars bases, it's up to the player to save the other humans trapped inside the factory.

Luckily, several friendly robots are on hand to help the player fight back. The robots gift the player with a spacesuit and teach the player how it can be improved with nanotechnology. As the game progresses, the player is helped further by scientists hiding inside the factory who leave clues and information that help the player understand and use the nanomaterials in optimal ways to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. Players must master this improvement process as it is directly linked to the progressive difficulty in the game. Presented with puzzle challenges, the player must race against the clock to keep their robotic team members functioning while searching for more raw materials and the hidden scientists in order to get strong enough to confront D-brain directly.

Mission Control: NanoMech was developed under a grant from the National Science Foundation (Grant #0823411) and developed in collaboration with NASA through a Space Act Agreement. This action-adventure game is based on real nanotechnology content, which was reviewed by experts for accuracy. Spacesuit components and technologies are based on authentic future technologies being researched and developed by NASA and others.
