Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the "Strand" or connection.
The action of Death Stranding takes place in the near future. The United States of America looks like Iceland, and it is purely cartographic unlike it real self, but it does not matter. Obviously, Kojima in this case is most interested in the word “United” in the name of the country.
The protagonist is a lone courier named Sam Bridges. Since the world was struck by the mysterious phenomenon of Death Stranding and inhabited by terrible monsters called BT (in the official translation - “Creatures”), the uncomplicated profession of the protagonist has become vital: disparate settlements of people can only communicate with each other by foot messengers.
